The Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) is a youth orchestra under the purview of the Co-Curricular Activities Branch, Education Programmes Division, Ministry of Education. Members of the SNYO come from primary and secondary schools, junior colleges, international schools and tertiary institutions in Singapore. The current principal conductor is Dr. Leonard Tan, Assistant Professor of Music at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. The stated aim of the SNYO is to "provide each student exemplary orchestral experience and the highest quality professional music education and training, as part of the holistic approach to our education system – to inspire and nurture career-minded musicians, enthusiastic amateurs and dedicated music-lovers". On 30 March 2007 SNYO launched the inaugural SNYO International Artistes Series (IAS) with the first guest artiste, internationally acclaimed violin virtuoso, Li Chuanyun. The IAS is a progression from the Orchestra’s earlier Music Mentor Programme, which ran from 2004 to 2006. To encouraged the creative composition skills among musicians, SNYO holds its annual competition of the Dr Tay Eng Soon Young Composers’ Competition. The works of the top prize winners are then performed at the SNYO Chamber Music Concert. == Origins == The orchestra's predecessor was a pre-war youth orchestra led by Glen Williams, who was appointed by the British administration to run the school's music programme here. In 1965 it came under the wings of Paul Abisheganaden. During the '70s it came under the auspices of the Young Musicians Society and Vivien Goh's father, Goh Soon Tioe, a private music teacher, conducted it until 1975 when he stepped down for medical reasons. The orchestra was without a conductor until 1979 when it was housed at the Centre for Musical Activities (now Centre for the Arts) of the then University of Singapore (now National University of Singapore). In 1980, the Ministry of Education (MOE) formally took over the management of the group. It sought to build the Singapore Youth Orchestra into a national youth orchestra and recognized it officially as an extra-curricular activity for students who are members. Professionally trained musicians (from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and graduates of music conservatories) give one-on-one fully subsidized coaching for most of the student musicians (the exceptions are those who choose to have their own tutors) and they also help conduct sectional rehearsals. In 2002 (?), the orchestra was renamed as the Singapore National Youth Orchestra. 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Singapore National Youth Orchestra」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
